Why Buy a Beach Home?

Oceanfront Homes

Fripp Island Beach Homes

I sell beach homes in Beaufort, South Carolina including Fripp Island.  Selling or buying real estate especially now may sound risky.  In this economy, why would you? If you could afford it or maybe won the lottery, would it be the prudent thing to do?  Have you read the newspapers lately?

In spite of the reports of our economy, on Sunday, I sold a Fripp Island beach home to a Peachtree City couple from Atlanta, Ga.  They had dreamed, planned, saved and agonized for years about buying a beach home, and time was ticking.  They had cash…the old fashion kind that was earned.

They knew they wanted to diversify their investments.  Their investment advisor told them that real estate is a good idea.  After touring Beaufort together, they became convinced that maybe “now is the right time to buy” and Beaufort the right place.   Prices at record lows, inventory and choices at a high, and if they elected to finance mortgage rates are at record lows.

If they acted now they would be taking advantage of the “buyer’s market” that currently exists and includes attractive values for the least cost.  They could buy low….sound familiar.  It would fulfill a lifelong dream.  Their strategy included a long hold.  Their long hold would minimize their risk and maximize their potential gain.  Their planned retirement was ten years away.  Then they would live here full time. In the meantime they could enjoy shorter durations and visits. It was a sound plan, a solid investment strategy and they were ready to act.

We spent all day Saturday touring through our short list of homes.  They were committed to the process, to learn the area and the market.  In preparing for our tour, we had spent weeks on line culling hundreds of homes determining a short list. Our homework was complete, we had a plan, all the homes were qualified. It paid off.

The part I did not expect is this… They fell in love with the very first home we visited.  They did not know it at the time…it took ten hours touring other homes…and two more visits to the first home and a good Beaufort night’s sleep.  The next day and one more visit they knew without a doubt, that they had indeed found the perfect beach home…a place that had until now had only been a dream.  We were able to negotiate a great price….and in the end a smart investment.

When they left Sunday, I still had time to go to late church and prayerfully express my gratitude for what I do for a living..  I help people obtain their lifelong dreams, but it is more than a dream.  It is the culmination of  years of their hard work and smart investment.  Of course there are risks. But in the long haul there seems to be  a lot more opportunities and rewards.

  1. As a young girl up to my early teens I lived very close to the beach from there my father and mother decided on a move to a more mountainous environment for our family. Although it was a nice change I still missed the close proximity to the beach. You know that feeling when you wake up in the morning and breath in that Amazing salty air… for me it has always brought back fond memories of my young girl days.
From the mountains to Atlanta I moved with my family an even farther distance from the ocean. However living in the Atlanta area brought us closer to another wonderful coastal town.
We began taking our vacations to South Carolina primarily around the beaches of Charleston and it was on those very vacations that I fell in love with that lovely flavor of South Carolina best referred to many as the Low country. I promised myself that someday I would buy a home and retire in some wonderful town in SC.
That’s where Ron comes in I went to a website investigating realtors in the Beaufort SC area, answered a few questions on line requesting help with the local real estate. I had one realtor email me back and Ron who actually took it a step farther and called.
You know that feeling when you talk to someone over the phone and can feel a sense of comfort and truth well I can say that it was easy for us to choose to work with Ron his enthusiasm for what he does and where he does it is without a doubt a huge selling point.

Ron spent many hours touring us around and showing us all the different islands and areas that we had an interest in seeing. By the end of the day after going back
to the very first home we looked at 3 times we realized that we had fallen in love with this lovely, quirky, crazy romantic home with a view that gets deeply under your skin.
Wow! Who could have imagined that it would only take one day for us to find the perfect home for our family. That’s what the Low country does to you…like I mentioned before it gets under your skin…but in a really good way.

I am anxiously waiting to awaken to the salty sea air and feel the gratitude and blessings of this wonderful place that I hope to call home someday… this lovely Island called Fripp.
Thank you Ron for your patience and comittment to being a great realtor and I can say a new friend to Anthony and I.
